Since 2011, Feeding America conducts an annual comprehensive study, called Map the Meal Gap, to measure and analyze food insecurity across the nation by congressional district, state, and county.
Yesterday, the newest Map the Meal Gap report was released to the public. Here are some key takeaways for Hunger in our state:
- 963,130 individuals were estimated to be food insecure in Arizona in 2022. This is up from 751,690 in 2021.
- Food insecurity among Black or Latino individuals is higher than White individuals in more than 9 out of 10 counties.
- Nearly 50% of people facing hunger are unlikely to qualify for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Plan (SNAP).
